Churches and Chapels

All Saints East Cowton is a relatively modern church and stands in an elevated position at the west end of the village. It has an interesting circular Norman font and a fine decorated organ. It was built in 1909 to replace the old church, now demolished, which stood outside the village at the cemetary on the North Cowton road. All Saints E.C.
St Marys S.C. St. Mary's, South Cowton, is a fine old church near Atley Fields farm and below the Castle. It is set on its own on a small rise above the adjacent water meadows. Building was commenced by Christopher Conyers and completed in 1470. It is of some interest for the fine alabaster castings of Sir Richard Conyers and his two wives and for its stained glass windows. The building, whilst officially redundant and partly maintained from public funds, is still in active occasional use. The setting is particularly peaceful and the east gate to the churchyard gives one of the better views up the hill to the castle.
This old Weslyan Chapel in the centre of the village dates from 1903, is of fine engineering brick and has now been converted to residential use. There is a strong nonconformist tradition locally and an active Methodist Chapel in North Cowton. Chapel
