This charming village in rural North Yorkshire was originally a backwater known only for the fish in the lakes to the south. When these were drained even winter skating ceased. However it is now a vibrant mix of commuters, who work in the local conurbations, and other residents. The village is linear by nature and has two distinct ends-the West and East greens. These communities are joined together by recent housing. Behind the Beeswing Inn is the most recent housing "Golden Acres". The village is well known locally for its active social life. The main farms forming part of the village are Whitehead, Town End and Cross Rein. Other local communities include South Cowton and Atley Hill, Great Smeaton, and North Cowton and our local county town is Northallerton.
